What is the Southland Social Sciences Fair?
Primary and secondary students from Southland schools have exhibited in the Fair for the past nine years. That means 2014 is our 10th anniversary! Until recently, research projects were on display for a week at the Southland Museum and Art Gallery. A recent surge in popularity prompted a move to larger premises at the Scottish Hall in Esk Street, Invercargill.
Students choose a topic they have an interest in. The next step is to formulate some questions to investigate. Answers to research questions are usually found through interviews, surveys, emailing, reading or simply asking someone who knows. Information is then carefully selected and finally displayed on boards for judging. Diaries are often kept and included in final displays. Digital entries can be submitted (see 2014 Information page for more details about digital entries).
